Compared to diesel or petrol, electricity costs less which clearly explains why electric cars or battery cars are the future. Battery cars are not only cheap, but it also contributes to improving air pollution. Electric cars don't require much maintenance or a ride to a gas station as it can be charged overnight at home. All the benefits it provides, makes battery cars the future of automotive but how battery car works?
The battery cars work on an electric motor instead of a gasoline engine. A large battery pack is used by battery cars to power the electric motor and turn the wheels. The entire system is complex, but the advantage is that the system consists of very few mechanical components which make the whole battery car system reliable. The main parts of the battery car are batteries, an electric motor, and a motor controller but the system also includes the components which make the entire system work on the battery enabled operations. Key components of battery car together make it work.
All electric Battery
Unlike the batteries in all cars which are dedicated to playing car accessories like air conditioner or radio but in battery cars, the battery runs everything. So the electric motor which uses battery packs must be long-lasting enough to cover the maximum distance with a minimum of charging. The auxiliary battery which itself is a pack of batteries provides power to provide the full functionality to the car. Automotive batteries are designed to deliver maximum current in a short period to make it long lasting.
Charge port
The charge port is used to connect to an external power supply to fully charge the battery pack so the battery car can be put back on track. Charge port has replaced the fuel tanks in a car as power is what a battery car needs to cover miles. These charge ports are used to recharge the car batteries. It is the most crucial part in a car battery as a controller gets it to supply from the array of rechargeable batteries.
Electric transaction motor
The motor uses the power from the traction battery pack and drives the car's wheels. Some motors perform both the regeneration and drive functions.
On board charger
It monitors the characteristics of the battery pack such as current, voltage, temperature or the state of charge when the battery is charged.
Power electronics controller
This unit of the battery car manages the flow of the electrical energy that is delivered by a battery pack. Power electronics controller controls the speed of the electric traction motor and also controls the turning power produced by it. The power controller takes power from pack of batteries and delivers to the motor. It provides zero power when the car is stopped, and the power is ranging from zero to its capacity when the driver floors the accelerator pedal of a car battery.
Thermal System
As the name suggests, it maintains the proper temperature for operation of electric motor, engine, power electronics and other components. The cooling system is directly linked to the heating system and is utilized in the cooling system of the vehicle.
These components work together to build up the entire system of battery cars and makes the cars cover maximum miles on the minimum charging available.
